Choosing paint to paint a room can give you a headache. There are hundreds of different products on the market from dozens of manufacturers. If you don't know which paint is the best for your room, we will be happy to advise you. In this text you will find the characteristics of the most popular interior paints - acrylic and latex.
Latex and acrylic paints - what's the difference?
The differences between latex and acrylic paints are mainly due to different characteristics or parameters normally attributed to these products by the users. Nevertheless, with both latex and acrylic paints we will effectively paint almost every interior. A more specific choice should depend on the specifics of the room.
Latex and acrylic paints are:
- harmless to the human body and the environment,
- we can apply them with a roller and a brush,
- we can use them to paint GK panels, lime, mixed and gypsum plasters.
Purpose of the room and paint parameters
Only when choosing the type of paint for a room should we specify our choice. Remember that you should choose a different paint for the living room and a different paint for the newborn. Similarly with kitchens, bathrooms and other rooms where we deal with different air humidity or exposure to mechanical damage to the surface.
Paint for children's rooms
Children's rooms are usually exposed to dirt and mechanical damage. Therefore, it is worth choosing scrubbing resistant paints (preferably I, II or III class). The higher the class, the more resistant the paint is to friction, so it can be scrubbed wet. Thanks to such parameters, we can easily clean a dirty wall and the paint surface will be resistant to lesser dirt. We can successfully use acrylic and latex paints that are friendly to health and the environment. Oil paints are not recommended due to long drying time and unpleasant smell.
Paint for youth and day rooms
In living rooms and youth rooms, we do not have to choose scrubbing resistant paints, as the risk of the wall becoming dirty is significantly reduced. In this situation, washable acrylic or latex paints will be an excellent choice.
Paint for rooms with high humidity
In rooms with high humidity, it is worthwhile to protect walls against the growth of fungi, algae and mould. In this case, latex paints can be used to protect the surface against microbial growth. In such situations, a solvent-free, matte finish is the perfect solution. paint.
The type of room and the colour of the paint - a few general rules
Paint parameters are one thing, but colour is another important selection criterion. The colour of the walls is of great importance for the well-being of the person in the room or for the visual perception of the space.
It has been assumed that children's rooms should use cheerful, bright and pleasant colours, e.g. blue, green or yellow. Inspirations on how to choose the colour of paints can be found, for example, in the catalogues of paint manufacturers.
Small rooms are usually painted in light colours, which optically increases their volume. In the case of larger rooms, darker colours are used successfully.
