What is kitchen furniture made of?

Different elements of our furniture can be made of different types of materials. It all depends on where they are. Laminated particle boards are usually used to make the cabinet body, whereas more visible elements are made of MDF foil board or veneered particle board. However, the most important parts of furniture are their fronts, which is why they are usually used for wood, glass or wood-based panels. Many different types of wood are used in the production of furniture. It can therefore be birch, alder or pine, but the most noble are considered to be deciduous species such as oak or beech.

The surface of wood used in the production of kitchen furniture is waxed or varnished. It should be remembered that changes in humidity cause its warping and cracking, so proper protection is extremely important. Very often you can also find furniture made of cheaper wood, which has been stained, so that it resembles the higher shelf price. A much better solution in this case, however, is to cover such a material with a veneer of a more noble grade.

The most popular materials used in the production of kitchen furniture are chipboards, which are very cheap and come in many shades and patterns. They are not particularly durable materials, but if we take care of their thorough varnishing, they can be of use to us for a long time.

MDF board is a durable and moisture-resistant substitute for wood, which can be easily formed. It is covered with PVC foil, varnish, melamine or natural wood veneer. The hardness of this material could be compared to solid soft wood. Graphite kitchen

Glass fronts of kitchen furniture are more and more willingly used solution, which is very elegant and durable. Usually the glass is embedded in a frame made of wood or aluminium, or the front is entirely made of this material. This type of glass does not have to be completely transparent. More and more often buyers decide to use milk glass, coloured or varnished glass.

Surface finish

All types of wood-based panels can be finished in several ways. They can therefore be varnished or covered with some plastic or veneer. The latter definitely looks its best, it is very natural and thanks to that we can keep the typical features of wood.

Laminate, in turn, is a material that can only be used for smooth surfaces. Manufacturers like to use it because it is very durable and does not change under the influence of sunlight. Fronts and edges of kitchen furniture are often covered with PVC foil, which is applied warmly. This means that we don't have to worry about water damage. Resistance, durability and ease of cleaning are the great advantages of this material.

Varnish, however, is much more susceptible to various types of damage, so you need to take care to apply as many layers as possible on the furniture. The wood can be covered with transparent varnish or varnish that additionally enhances the colour and rings. Kitchen furniture in which varnish is used may be glossy, semi glossy, but also matt or semi-matt. The furniture boards used for the production of kitchen furniture can also be coated with a layer of hard acrylic. It is very stiff, easy to clean and extremely scratch-resistant. If you look at it, you will find that it is similar to fronts that are foiled or varnished to a high gloss, but it is much better than them. Why would I do that? Well, in the case of acrylic you can easily refresh its shine with polishing paste, which is not possible in foil plates.

Less common materials

The possibility of using newer and newer technologies makes the furniture manufacturers and their designers very willing to use more unusual solutions. Nowadays it is possible to use such laminates, which look almost identical to wood, concrete or stone, and at the same time are cheaper and easier to maintain. In addition, the desire to have industrial interiors means that more and more people are also choosing very original materials, such as concrete, steel or aluminium. Recently, Laminam quartz sinters have been very popular, which are burned from ground quartz, additionally supplemented with slate clays, granite rocks and pigments. What are the advantages of this material? First of all, these boards are stiff, lightweight and extremely durable, so that they do not scary scratches, high temperatures or even chemicals. For buyers it is also very important that fronts made of them perfectly imitate wood, stone, metal or even coal, giving the kitchen a unique character.
